This is my version of Briar Rose ( aka Sleeping Beauty ) based on the Brothers Grimm version, not the Disney version --though that version is nice, too.

This illustration is one of the print designs being given away with my kickstarter campaign to print my fairy tale comics anthology, Erstwhile!

Pre-orders/pledges end on June 6th!

Check out the kickstarter

Nice. I like to use the wheel for that story's emblem, too. Playing around with the shape of the spokes and everything.

Cute dress, but I prefer the story without the rape.

This story did not include rape. There is a variation out there where she is awoken by twins suckling, but this version is not it.

Doing this illustration got ME wanting to do this story for Erstwhile. Maybe it could happen somewhere down the line ^_^

Ha ha, I love that Erstwhile mostly focuses on obscure stories or less regularly adapted ones, but sometimes I'd love to see some of the more well-known ones like Briar Rose since you guys do such a great job with them.

Sleeping Beauty has always been one of my fav classical fairy tales. Love it.

I like this. I love the Asian influences in their clothing and faces. Disney used the Charles Perrault version, which was significantly tamer (and older!) than the Grimm version. That's why it pisses me off when people say that the Grimm versions of fairy tales were the "originals" and that Disney dumbed them down.
